If you want to really experience New Zealand you won't want to miss a trip between the North and South islands on our fabulous inter-island ferries.

New Zealand - consists of 2 main islands (the North Island and the South Island) - with the wild and wonderful 19 km stretch of Cook Strait between.

Travelling between the 2 main islands you will be able to take advantage of the exellent Interisland Ferry Services to experience the whole of New Zealand.

'New Zealand's Ferries'

Interislander's passenger and vehicle ships, Kaitaki, Arahura and Aratere, offer a convenient and regular daily service accross, the 19 kilometre stretch of water separating the North and South Island.

The Kaitaki, Aratere and Arahura provide a wide range of onboard facilities and entertainment - as well as comfortable lounges and decks from which you can take in the view.

Interislander offers a wide range of on board facilities and entertainment for you to enjoy as you travel between the islands as well as a unique view of some of New Zealand's most stunning scenery.

Once on board enjoy a movie, a drink in the bar or anything from a snack to a three course meal. For families there is a nursery and children's play area and at the information centre you can exchange your foreign currency.

Cruising time is approximately 3 hours.

'Welcome Aboard'

Welcome to Strait Shipping's Bluebridge 'inter-island' passenger service between Wellington and Picton. At Bluebridge our intention is to offer you a choice on the Cook Strait.

Strait Shipping was founded in May 1992 with the aim of providing an alternative Cook Strait ferry service for freight. This aim has not changed, only expanded. We may never be the biggest shipping service in New Zealand, but we will always strive to be the best. By aiming for the highest standards of customer service, efficiency, effectiveness, and environmental and social responsibility, we want to ensure that customers have a choice, and that they will choose us.

Travelling time is approximately 3 hours 20 minutes.

Free WiFi is now available in the passenger areas inside our terminals and on board our ships. So now it's possible to post Facebook updates, tweet, email, shop and surf the web whilst crossing the Cook Strait with us!

Vessel back in service

The last of the parts from Germany arrived yesterday and after completing successful engine and sea trials the Santa Regina has returned back to her regular sailing schedule. We would like to thank those of you who worked extremely hard to minimise the disruption to our customers during the past week and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this engineering disruption may have caused you.

Change to age policy

We have ammended our child policy to allow us to be even more competitive in the family market. Effective immediately our passenger types are defined as per the following:

  • Infant (0 - 11 months)
  • Child (1 - 17)
  • Adult (18+)
  • Senior (60+)

Please note that all children under the age of 15 still must be accompanied by an adult. We ask that you apply this ammended age policy to any bookings from now.

New cafe area on board

The new cafe space on board the Straitsman includes comfy seating, stylish soft furnishings and a work station for up to 7 passengers working on laptops.

A huge floor to ceiling panorama mural titled ‘The Road to Paradise’ wraps right the way around 2 walls and is proving to be a huge hit with visitors - many are posing for photos beside it.

 
   
   

Now screening

You're probably already aware that we play a range of popular recent-release films during our sailings, in dedicated free-to-access movie lounges. This movie selection is updated regularly and now it is possible to check our website and let customers know what's currently screening prior to their sailing.  That's what we call "going the extra nautical mile"!

We've got the menu sorted

Regardless of whether your customers Cook Strait sailing is at breakfast, lunch or dinner we’ve got the menu sorted! All of our Kiwi-inspired a la carte dishes are prepared fresh by our own chefs on board and now you can browse the current menus at any given time simply by visiting our website.
